Call a Spade a Spade, Paganism – Paganism

2113 Idolatry not only refers to false pagan worship. It remains a constant temptation to faith. Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism)
The Catechism of the Catholic Church

Watching the Pope wielding a spade in the Vatican Gardens while hosting a pagan ritual, leads me to think it is time to call a spade a spade, and paganism – paganism.  Let us not be deceived into thinking this pope and his cabal are unaware of what was launched against faithful Catholics in the past week – including the opening ceremony of the Amazon Synod.

Quick Refresher – Catechism of the Catholic Church

This quick refresher of what the Catholic Church really believes about what we are witnessing in Rome can keep us protected in the coming days. We can also remember what St. Paul told us in Ephesians 6:12. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

2112 The first commandment condemns polytheism. It requires man neither to believe in nor to venerate, other divinities than the one true God. Scripture constantly recalls this rejection of “idols, [of] silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see.” These empty idols make their worshippers empty: “Those who make them are like them; so are all who trust in them.” 42 God, however, is the “living God” 43 who gives life and intervenes in history.

Pachamama idol in Vatican Gardens

2113 Idolatry not only refers to false pagan worship. It remains a constant temptation to faith. Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc. Jesus says, “You cannot serve God and mammon.” 44 Many martyrs died for not adoring “the Beast” 45 refusing even to simulate such worship. Idolatry rejects the unique Lordship of God; it is therefore incompatible with communion with God. 46

2114 Human life finds its unity in the adoration of the one God. The commandment to worship the Lord alone integrates man and saves him from an endless disintegration. Idolatry is a perversion of man’s innate religious sense. An idolater is someone who “transfers his indestructible notion of God to anything other than God.” 47

Observations about Amazon Synod Opening Ceremony

Official word came from the Vatican press office explaining what was on the agenda for the opening.  In brief:

Worshipping the Pachamama (Earth Mother) idol in the Vatican Garden

Therefore, on 4 October, in the Vatican Gardens, in the presence of the Holy Father, the heads of the indigenous populations and representatives of the Church, a tree – a holm oak from Assisi – will be planted as a visible sign of integral ecology.

The event, organized by the Order of Friars Minor, the World Catholic Movement for Climate (GCCM) and REPAM (Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network) is intended to communicate the importance of the Season of Creation, since this is Pope Francis’ first visible gesture following his invitation to the Church worldwide to celebrate this period of prayer and more intense action for the benefit of the common home…

In the Vatican Gardens, a prayer of consecration of the Synod to the intercession of Saint Francis will be recited, in the hope that this process will lead to discernment of new ways for the Church and for an integral ecology in this key region for the world.

Unsuspecting Catholic faithful …

Little did unsuspecting Catholic faithful know what celebrating the “Season of Creation” in the Vatican Garden would entail. After viewing the ceremony, Catholic Monitor gave a report saying –

The meaning of the Vatican ritual was apparently a type of pagan fertility ceremony (the two indigenous pagan statues of naked pregnant women) as well as a ceremony for a witch doctor or shaman “to invoke… [pagan] animal spirits and helping spirits.”

…”Participants sang and held hands while dancing in a circle around the images. The dance resembled the pago a la tierra, a traditional offering to Mother Earth common among indigenous peoples in some parts of South America. No explanation was provided by the event organizers as to why the dance was performed for the feast of St. Francis or what it symbolized.”

I noticed in this link to the pago a la tierra that they bring in Shamans (a witch doctor or a witch) because they are exceptionally knowledgeable when it comes to speaking with the Pachamama and the Apus, the spirits (aka demons) of the mountains.  It is obvious the Order of Friars Minor, World Catholic Movement for Climate (GCCM), and REPAM (a network of CATHOLIC churches), all members of the committee, totally disregard primary Catholic teaching. (See paragraph 2113 above from Catechism.) Their actions bring a Scripture to mind, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…” ~I Samuel 15:23

However, what should be concerning to observant Catholics is that according to a report on Crisis Magazine, this type of ritual is no surprise to the bishops coming from that area. Nor is this the first time no explanation is given for their participation and assent to it.  For example:

Another rite of “indigenous mysticism” took place at a pre-synodal meeting of bishops gathered around Cardinal Hummes’s group, the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM), which organized both the Vatican gardens ceremony and the synod. One commentator claimed that the synodal fathers “expect the [ceremonial] broth to be hot enough to ingest, in a kind of communion with the Pachamama.” In August, at another preparatory meeting for the synod, a Colombian shaman “blessed” the religious present. (In Crisis Magazine article)

Following the “One Commentator claimed” link above, I came across more of the story about not giving an explanation on the pagan celebration:

At the time, they gave no explanation about that celebration. Many naive people understood it as an “ecumenical opening” in relation to peoples still mired in pagan ignorance.

However, that “opening” is not really an “ecumenical” strategy to convert indigenous peoples, but precisely the opposite. It is about “converting” a growing number of members of the Catholic hierarchy to the worldview of “Pachamama” or “Mother Earth.”

The website where that comment is found is precious for concerned Catholics to visit to learn more about the real intent of the Amazon Synod.  It is published by Pan-Amazon Synod Watch, an international campaign of the Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute (IPCO) and its sister organizations, the Societies for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) and related entities present in more than 30 countries. They constitute the broadest coalition of associations in defense of Christian civilization. I visited it for the first time several months ago, and the wealth of background information found there is fantastic.

Perverting the Faith

It was initially said that the two idols (Pachamamas) facing each other were some type of enactment of the Visitation by the Blessed Mother to St. Elizabeth. Such a cruel mockery of the second of the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary.  What a crafty way to mask demonic entities behind Saints and ensnare those who are pure and have deep love and respect for the Mother of Our Saviour, Son of the One True God! Let us pray that guileless Catholics are not taken in by such deception.

There is an article on Lifesite News with an interview from a young man who is an ex-shaman’s grandson.  He was appalled when he saw a video of the Amazonian religious ceremony that took place in the Vatican last Friday. He recognized precisely what was happening and the real evil intent behind it. His insight is beyond the idols.  He takes the bishops to task for not evangelizing, yet his desire is for the Amazonian indigenous.  His hope is for them to accept salvation, just as his shaman grandfather accepted Christ.  Really interesting.

“I wish the indigenous people of the Amazon could hear something similar to what the indigenous Igorots heard from Pope John Paul II when he visited the Philippine Cordillera mountains in 1981,” Delson said.

“After mentioning each tribe, he expressed praise, appreciation, and compassion for our culture, he ended with ‘Yet in all this, the Church never forgets the primacy of her spiritual mission, remembering that her ultimate goal is to lead all men and women to eternal salvation in Christ’,” Delson recalled.
